The covid pandemic has given us all a lot of time to look at our homes, and change the way we live. Instead of moving, it makes sense to invest in our own homes with improvements. One such improvement would be the central heating system. A lot of older homes have thin pipes and single panel radiators that work very inefficiently even if they warm up.
Vertical radiators can help resolve this issue. Changing the pipework will of course help but moving to tall flat or oval panel radiators will definitely help and it may be the cheaper first option. Most tall radiators will work with ½” fittings for 15mm pipework but you can easily get reducers to adjust the pipes.
Vertical radiators come in a variety of sizes and heat outputs. For example the lynwood C001 300 is 1600mm high, 300mm wide and single panel. The long tall thin panels greatly increase surface area so the air is warmed faster. More efficient. This is the smallest in the Lynwood range with an output around 2500 BTU. The vertical radiator range goes out to eht mammoth C004 1800 tall and 604mm wide version with double panels with a heatout close to 10500 BTU. Lynwood also do oval panels and white / black versions of the most popular anthracite models.
Choose a radiator size that works for your room and its shape. Smaller out puts and multiple radiators may work better than a single large one (to avoid cold spots). Or with large rooms, multiple large output radiators. You can turn radiators down but you cant make them give more heat out than they were built for.
